Catching Up

Hello!  "Blogging" has been on my to-do list for several weeks, but I just haven't made the time for it.  It's become my new gym.  Hate it, don't wanna do it...so I haven't.  I have replaced my evenings when I usually blog with wrapping Christmas gifts.

Let me clarify - I don't hate blogging.  In fact, I love it and have continued to write posts for Houston Moms Blog, however I've been struggling lately with what I want this space to be.

I know I'm not alone in my feelings of the blogger pressure.  The pressure to get 3-4 posts up per week.  A good mix of product reviews with personal stories and always high quality images.  Oh and of course, linkup with someone!

But lately, what's been plaguing me the most about blogging is the materialistic side of it.  So much of the blogosphere has turned into buy this, wear this, try this...and all using affiliate links so that we can buy more, wear more and try more.  {I personally don't use affiliate links fyi, but many bloggers do}.

I am so sick of reading gift guides this season I finally just started to "mark them as read" in my feed.  I LOVE reading product recommendations from bloggers, don't get me wrong.  And I certainly love to recommend to you all of my favorite finds, but it just seems to be too much lately.  How many "favorites" and "must-haves" can one blogger have?

Maybe I'm just reading the wrong blogs, but lately after reading them I either feel the need to buy something or feel inadequate for what I don't have and aren't doing.

So that's where I'm at today.  I don't want my blog to be a "mommy" blog and just share pictures of Jack, but I also don't want to be a product pusher who makes you feel bad over something you don't have or can't afford.  I'm not crafty, don't have fitness tips and am no Julia Child so what exactly am I contributing is a question I often ask myself.

My only answer is a real person.  A real wife, mom, friend, professional, clumsy, overweight, sarcastic person who hopefully you like just as I am.

I'm not going anywhere - just working to figure out what to do next on The Perfect Catch!

...a space where we embrace the perfection of imperfection.

xoxo

  1. Seriously, I feel you. I am so tired of holiday tours and everything else that I just click through them. It makes me feel bad about what I am NOT doing, instead of focusing on all things I AM doing. Praying that you figure out what your "space" should be but quite frankly, I love you just as you are - my sweet, funny, sarcastic friend (with great style) who is absolutely beautiful. xo

  2. Girl, I always ask myself these questions, and I've only been blogging for 9 months. I feel like the people who are going to read my blog will come back because they're loyal and we've built relationships. When I started, I thought, if I can just make one person laugh or turn a frown into a smile, then I've done my part. And I think I've accomplished that. ;) I keep reminding myself of that and why I started blogging in the first place. However, I have felt the pressures of the blog world! I've done gift guides, but really they were gift guides for my family. Lol. So sorry if you had to skip over those. ;) Here's to catching up with friends in the blog world and sending out good energy into the world. Merry Christmas, sweet friend!

  3. I definitely know where your'e coming from on this post...My thoughts are to keep writing about life. The perfect catch is wonderful (and real) lifestyle blog that shares a glimpse into the life of a young working family. I'm always amazed at how much you accomplish with a full time job and a toddler on top of that! You are crafty and love holidays as much as me and get a thrill out of dressing up your adorable little boy! That's what I love to read. I think it's easy to think too much into this blogging thing sometimes. I just have to remind myself why I started it...to document my pregnancy and our new home. So, I may stray away from that from time to time, but I try to steer back to those two things! I hope that helps, love! xoxo

  4. Just think...we started blogging what 7 years ago?? (even though I don't really blog anymore ha) isn't that just crazy to think about?! We have come a long way from my homemade digital scrapbook headers and blogging during class time/work :) I always love reading your blog, no matter what you post about! But I could be biased since you're my BFF.

  5. I posted something like this yesterday and I totally feel you! I think all of the pressure to do it all- be pinterest-worthy, vlog, have brands want to work with you - it's insane. It isn't the reason why I started blogging. I definitely never thought I would make money or get cool opportunities from it. When I got wrapped up in wanting my blog to be more than just a space to write, I really started to dread it. The gym is a great analogy. In 2015, I'm going to try to embrace just writing when I want about what I want, link-ups and picmonkey and other things that are obligations be damned! Good luck finding your groove again!

And I swear, if I read one more post about the perfect leggings or Sophie the Giraffe with an affiliate link, I will scream.

  6. Hmmm, I'm a newbie blogger but I like the gift guides and find them really helpful. I also think affiliate thinks are awesome! It's just like when you refer a friend to a company and receive a kick back or reward for doing so. I'm a newbie though so clearly I don't know all the ins and outs of blogging :)
